The Arizona Legends
RV Resort is situated just above “old” Benson, overlooking
the San Pedro Valley...with a breathtaking view of the Dragoon
Mountains. This area is noted for its consistently spectacular
sunsets, as well as its awesome sunrises.
If you spend summers RVing --in a place like Montana,
for example
– then you already know how inspiring scenery – and
weather – can be. You’ll be enchanted with the unique
differences you’ll find in the desert beauty and generally
moderate winter temperatures in this part of Arizona.
Benson – an historic railroad town which served Bisbee,
Tombstone, and other nearby cities recognized in western lore
– is expanding to meet its situation as a increasingly popular
‘bedroom’ community for Tucsonans (Tucson is 45 miles
to the west).
The area includes dozens of attractions and historic sites. Tombstone
-- site of the famous Gunfight at the OK Corral – is just
25 miles away. This old western town, preserved as a National
Historic Site, is a treasure trove of things to see and do.
There are plenty things to do in the area and see in and around Benson.
Kartchner Cavern State Park, right in Benson is home to one of
the continent’s few “living” cave systems.
Nearby Willcox was once the capital of the world for shipping
range cattle from the southwest, and it was the place where Bill
Traynor – one of the fastest guns in the west – was
gunned down by the outlaw Texas Red (a subject of Marty Robbins’
hit song “Big Iron”). One of Wyatt Earp’s brothers,
Warren, was killed here at the Headquarters Saloon.
And just down the road a piece from Benson is Fort Huachuca,
the
famous wild-west “Pony Soldiers” outpost, now headquarters
for one of the nations most advances satellite spying systems.
Cochise Stronghold, where the famous Apache Chief is supposed
to be buried in a hidden grave, is in the Dragoon Mountains to
the east.
Several old time western towns – built for movie and television
shows – are close by, including Gammons Gulch, and the current
Tombstone reproduction about 5 miles west near Mescal, as well
as the original “Old Tucson” (now a major Tucson tourist
attraction). Tucson – known as the “Old Pueblo”
is 45 miles west on Interstate 10.
For shoppers, in addition to the Benson’s own Super Wal-Mart,
western shops, and regular downtown stores, there are major shopping
centers in nearby Sierra Vista and Tucson. The
Arizona Legends Resort offers several restaurants, and the city
of Benson offers additional dining choices.
There is a hospital in Benson, and there are comprehensive medical
centers in nearby Sierra Vista and, of course, Tucson –
home of the University of Arizona Medical School.
Indeed, Arizona Legends RV Resort is the perfect place to park
your wagon! It will include five uniquely styled villages, a
major
hotel for your guests, RV lot rentals, restaurants, shopping,
and limitless opportunities to explore our country’s western
heritage!
